Specifying this panel
The soft stop is often the reason to buy one. Dropping a large pump on a long rising main slams a non-return valve shut; ramping it down over ten seconds saves the pipework.
A soft starter controls the start, not the speed. If the process needs the motor to run at anything other than full speed, the answer is a VFD.
The bypass contactor matters: once the ramp is done the thyristors are shorted out, so there is no conduction loss and no harmonics in normal running.
