How to choose the right wire and cable for your home
Conductor size, insulation grade and the difference between FR and FRLS — the choices that decide whether your wiring is safe for its whole life, not just at handover.

Size the conductor to the load
The single most common mistake in home wiring is undersized cable. A conductor that is too thin runs warm, drops voltage and shortens the life of everything downstream. As a rough guide, lighting circuits use 1.0–1.5 mm², general sockets 2.5 mm², and heavy loads like a geyser or air-conditioner 4.0 mm² or more.
If you are not sure, tell us the load and the run length and we will size it properly — the right cable costs a little more once, and the wrong one costs every month in wasted energy.
FR, FRLS or HFFR
Ordinary PVC wire is flame-retardant (FR). FRLS adds low smoke, and HFFR (halogen-free) adds low toxic fumes — which matter in a fire far more than most buyers realise, because smoke incapacitates people long before flame reaches them.
For a home, FRLS house wire is a sensible baseline. For schools, hospitals, hotels and anywhere people gather, HFFR is worth the small premium.
Insist on genuine, ISI-marked cable
Counterfeit and under-spec cable is common in this market, and it is impossible to judge by eye. A cable stamped with a smaller conductor size than it actually contains is a fire risk that passes inspection.
Buy from a source that supplies only authorised-channel, ISI-marked product from names like Polycab, Havells, RR Kabel, KEI and Finolex. On project quantities we can supply cable cut to length with drum traceability.
